The Test d’Évaluation du Français (TEF Canada) and the Test de Français adapté au Québec (TEFaQ) are available at ILSC Montréal at 550 Sherbrooke St W, 8th floor, East Tower Montreal, QC, Canada, H3A 1B9.

TEF Canada and TEFaQ are officially recognized assessments of French language proficiency for immigration to Canada or Québec, and accepted by some universities and professional organizations. The Tests evaluate your oral and written comprehension and expression in French. Each segment of the test may be taken individually.*

Please note that ILSC offers the computer-delivered TEF Exams and the speaking assessment is done with an in-person examiner.

*Our test centres do not offer immigration advice, nor advise on which parts of the test you should take, please review requirements with the CCIP, MICC or IRCC as appropriate.

TEF has 5 components:

  • Oral Comprehension (40 minutes, 40 questions)
  • Oral Expression (15 minutes, 2 topics)
  • Written Comprehension (60 minutes, 40 questions)
  • Written Expression (60 minutes, 2 topics)
  • Lexicon and Structure (30 minutes, 40 questions)

Test Day Transfer and Cancellations

CANCELLING YOUR TEST

  • 15 days or more before your test - 75% refund of fees paid
  • Between 6-14 days before your test - 50% refund of fees paid
  • 5 days or less before your test - No refunds available

 

CHANGING YOUR TEST DAY

  • 8 days or more before your test - Eligible to a transfer (payment of 35$ administrative fees)
  • 7 days or less before your test - No transfers available
